In setting up my own site I have learned html, css, php, javascript, flash, and the use of web-authoring tools, photoshop, Mysql databases, and a multitude of other skills. My style of web design is clean and unfussy. I believe a website should show off a client and their products or services not the web designer. I find a lot of other designers want to make all of their sites cutting edge rather than economically designed.

That is not to say that your site cannot stand out or have some killer features if they are warranted.
